Abstract

The close relationship between Napoleon and Roman law is an important part of the myth surrounding the ‘legislator of the French’. It has its kernel of truth in the practical and functional, but ultimately not passive way in which he approaches ancient law and takes it seriously as a ‘living’ actual thing.
