Il timore di essere toccati. Leggere Canetti al tempo del Covid

Abstract

Questo saggio non ha la pretesa di fornire una chiave di lettura esaustiva
di un fenomeno complesso come l’epidemia da Covid-Sars 19, ma vuole contribuire ad una riflessione su come la convivenza con il virus abbia modificato il modo di percepire noi stessi e gli altri. Credere che gli esseri umani siano immuni ai cambiamenti di questi mesi è una stupidaggine, aggravata dal fatto che viviamo inseriti nel mito dell’individuo bastevole a se stesso. Più la malattia ed il dolore vengono rimossi dalla coscienza collettiva, meno le persone saranno in grado di affrontare situazioni in cui lo schema delle abitudini venga stravolto. La negazione della fragilità ci porta a sopravvalutare noi stessi, aprendo così la porta ad una perdita della capacità di resistere alle pressioni esterne. Per muoversi in questo labirinto di paure, stereotipi e speranze, si è deciso di utilizzare Massa e Potere di Elias Canetti, un’opera che procede per sottrazioni: dalla massa sino alla dissoluzione del potente, tutto è finalizzato a vivisezionare l’umano mettendone in luce le caratteristiche mimetiche ed il legame inscindibile con la natura.

This essay does not pretend to provide an exhaustive interpretation of a complex phenomenon such as the Covid-Sars 19 epidemic, but it does want to contribute to a reflection on how living with the virus has changed the way we perceive ourselves and others. To believe that human beings are immune to the changes of these months is nonsense, compounded by the fact that we live in the myth of the self-sufficient individual. The more illness and pain are removed from the collective consciousness, the less people will be able to cope with situations in which the pattern of habits is disrupted. The denial of fragility leads us to overestimate ourselves, thus opening the door to a loss of the ability to resist external pressures. In order to move through this labyrinth of fears, stereotypes and hopes, it was decided to use Elias Canetti’s Mass and Power, a work that proceeds by subtraction: from the mass to the dissolution of the powerful, everything is aimed at vivisecting the human being, highlighting its mimetic characteristics and inseparable bond with nature.
