COMPRENSIONI E MALINTESI NELLA COMUNICAZIONE INTERCULTURALE. UN ESEMPIO DELL'INCONTRO TRA TEDESCHI E ITALIANI

STEFAN NIENHAUS

Abstract

Thanks to the process of globalization, demands for intercultural
communication skills are increasing more and more. The paper examines intercultural
communication as the management of messages across cultures, particularly between
the German and Italian ones.
But often, problems of communication arise in intercultural dialogue when the
communicators have different values and understand concepts of meaning and identity
in strikingly different ways. Moreover, the author discusses about what stereotypes
mean, how they arise, why they are often inaccurate and even dangerous, and how to
avoid stereotypes in interactions with people from other cultures and carry out
intercultural communications in a more effective way.
