The essay aims at evaluating how fairy tales represent a central tool which can be used in order to raise awareness about the urgent environmental debate. After an introduction on the methodological approach and on the pedagogical function of children’s literature, based on an ecocritical dialogue, I will analyse three Andersen’s fairy tales: La margheritina, L’abete, Il lino. I will show how three narrative mechanisms, the evocation, the visualization and the identification actively contribute to the acquisition of soft skills connected to a call to action and to a more evident sense of responsibility towards the external and natural reality. The conclusion shows how the narrative and linguistic representation conveys a problematic vision about the ecosystem, but, at the same time, it involves readers, it activates an aware sense of preservation of the environment and promotes the development of soft skills.
