The linguistic reality of French is characterized by a diversity of varieties, shaped by geographical, social and contextual factors. This article examines the representation of variation within a corpus of French as a Foreign Language (FLE) textbooks, trough an analysis of the presence of features of orality in dialogues, which have long constituted an essential pedagogical tool in the teaching of foreign languages. A direct study of dialogues gives rise to a twofold reflection: on the one hand, a structural analysis, focusing on the way these elements are organized and on the evolution of their function over time; on the other hand, a didactic analysis, concentrating on how features of orality are manifested – or, remain absent – depending on the methodological approach adopted. The study aims to further explore how this objective is achieved and to examine the role that the integration of these variational features can play in the development of the conversational and interactional competence of FLE learners.
