Applying the VIP methodology to Japanese poetry, this study analyses recitations by Yoshihara Sachiko and Arai Takako. We propose a “theatricalizing rhetoric” beyond the traditional speed/slowness binary. Quantitative analysis of acoustic and rhythmic indices reveals that, despite comparable speech rates, the poets diverge structurally: Yoshihara embodies slowness through extended silence, while Arai displays a dense, melodically complex theatricality distinct from simple acceleration.
